2014 Netflix Release Dates

2014 Netflix Release Dates

Netflix LogoAs it does each year, the calendar rolls to January and our Everything Netflix page simply becomes unwieldy.  So we move the past year’s releases to their own special honorary page so you can check on things like, say, how long it took your favorite TV series to make it from the public airwaves to Netflix DVD and eventually to Instant Streaming.  Terribly useful information, that, as we all plan our future Netflix binges.

So here you have all the titles released by Netflix in 2014.  I’ll update this when I notice something new coming to streaming as well.  Enjoy!

December 31st

The Strain – Season 1 (TV sci-fi, Corey Stoll, David Bradley) – Viruses and Vampires.  I never heard of this FX original, but I’ll be watching it now.  Created by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. This was supposed to come out earlier this month, but I guess not.  So it’s here now!  DVD only

Survival Code (action, Patrick Gallagher, Ty Olsson) – Deep freeze climate change thriller.

The Honorable Woman – Season 1 (TV suspense, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Lubna Azabal) – Love Ms. Gyllenhaal, who stars here as a woman working for Israeli/Palestinian reconciliation.  Instant Streaming Available

Last Weekend (comedy, Patricia Clarkson, Zachary Booth) – Dysfunctional family comedy!  And it’s Available on Instant Streaming!

The Equalizer (action, Denzel Washington, Chloë Grace Moretz) – Great cast for this movie based on an old TV show – including Melissa Leo and Bill Pullman.

Elsa & Fred (romantic comedy, Shirley MacLaine, Christopher Plummer) – Another fantastic cast including Marcia Gay Harden for this senior rom/com.

Tusk (horror, Michael Parks, Justin Long) – When you try and interview someone in the back woods are you really surprised when you go missing?  I didn’t think so.

Stephen King’s A Good Marriage (horror, Joan Allen, Anthony LaPaglia) – I think in Stephen King world, “good” equals “really, really bad”.  I’ll be seeing this one.

Reach Me (dramedy, Danny Aiello, Tom Berenger) – Yet another great cast – this one about the wide reaching effects of a book by a recluse author.

Kelly & Cal (drama, Juliette Lewis, Cybill Shephard) – Unlikely friendship gets complicated.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (sci-fi, Andy Serkis, Jason Clarke) – Because this franchise isn’t worn out AT ALL.

As Above, So Below (horror, Perdita Weeks, Ben Feldman) – Terror under Paris in this found footage film.

The Hundred Foot Journey (drama, Helen Mirren, Om Puri) – Competing eateries battle in the south of France.  I’ll see this one for Helen Mirren, who I adore.

A Very Merry Mix-Up (family, Alicia Witt, Scott Gibson) – Hallmark Holiday Collection.  I leave you to draw your own conclusions.

Tyler Perry’s Hell Hath No Fury Like a Woman Scorned (special interest, Cheryl Riley, Patrice Lovely) – Can’t stand this guy.  And what is “special interest”?  It’s a play, but my gut says it just isn’t that special.

I Am Happiness on Earth (drama, Hugo Catalán, Alan Ramírez) – This drama about a love triangle and a gay filmmaker is, I think, in Spanish, though it’s hard to tell from the listing.

Covert Operation (action, Sedina Balde, Kirt Kishita) – Bounty hunter trapped in China and North Korea.  That’s not good.

A Very Funny Christmas (comedy, Hugh Bonneville, Julie McKenzie) – Despite starring Lord Grantham from Downton Abbey, I am suspicious that these two short movies based on books by David Walliams are not actually very funny.

Capital Games (romance, Eric Presnall, Gregor Cosgrove) – Rivals at the office, but not not in the bedroom.  Corporate gay erotica anyone?

Armed Response (action, Ethan Embry, Ving Rhames) – Staging robberies to sell your home security system?  That’s just not right.
