Get Outta The Water!
Cast: Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw, Richard Dreyfuss, Lorraine Gray
Director: Steven Spielberg
Parent to just about every “monster hunts humans” film of today, this classic still packs quite a wallop. The location: Amity Island, a Massachusetts resort town at the height of the summer blitz. Chief Brody (Scheider) has his hands full trying to deal with his new duties (he moved down from the big city of New York) when another huge problem is added to his plate: a body (or pieces thereof) washes ashore one morning. Could it be a shark attack? The mayor (Murray Hamilton) tries to persuade him not to close the beaches, while a hot young scientist (Dreyfuss) brought in to examine the evidence states categorically that this is a shark — and a big one.
The rest of the movie deals with the consequences of not closing the beaches, finding out that indeed they do have a shark problem, and the chief and scientist going out with the local fisherman-hunter (Shaw) in his boat to capture or kill the menace. A wild and bloody romp, with many attacks and people being eaten, this tale of “hunter being hunted” is well worth viewing for its gripping story, excellent acting, and exciting chase scenes.
A must see for all horror fans.
