Buy Wine and Truffles
Main Cast: Gerard Depardieu, Anne Brochet, Vincent Perez, Jacques Weber
Director: Jean-Paul Rappeneau
Guys!! If you want to make your sweetie think you are the ultimate, rent this movie, buy a bottle of French wine and some really nice chocolate (hint: dark chocolate truffles and Pinot Noir are a natural combination) . . . then cuddle on the couch and read her the subtitles of Cyrano de Bergerac in your best French accent.
Seriously, this movie will probably appeal to women more than men, but it is a very nice way to spend a couple of hours. The character development is wonderful, but that is a characteristic of European films. Gerard DePardieu brings tremendous depth to the role of Cyrano. Anne Brochet is charmingly innocent in the role of Roxane. And Christian? Vincent Perez is the guy you love to disdain.
I won’t rehash the plot since the Cyrano story should be familiar to anyone who passed their 11th grade English class. However, this movie is no dry retelling of a major piece of literature. Instead, you want to shake Roxane into realizing that the man who loves her is right under her nose (or so to speak).
Buy the wine and truffles and rent the movie. Trust me.
