Don’t mess with Iron Man and Robert Downey Jr., at least when it comes to ticket sales on opening weekend. The action movie, starring Downey as Tony Stark, an industrialist turned armor-clad hero, pulled in $100.7 million last weekend. That’s more than six times that of the second-place finisher, the Patrick Dempsey romantic comedy Made of Honor, which took a measly (by comparison) $15.5 million. This does not bode well for next week’s major releases, Speed Racer, whose potential audiences will probably go see Iron Man instead, and What Happens in Vegas, which appeals to … er, let me get back to you on that.
