Forest Whitaker and Jude Law have agreed to star in The Repossession Mambo, the feature film directing debut of Miguel Sapochnik. Despite the title, the movie is a thriller instead of a dance pic; the story, based on a novel by Eric Garcia, is set in a future in which people can buy artificial organs on credit, with dire consequences if they default.
Shooting is scheduled to begin this summer … though it won’t be the only such-themed movie in the works, as shooting for Repo! The Genetic Opera is planned for the fall. For the studios’ sake (and mine), I hope one or the other gets rescheduled. Competing asteroid movies, I understand. Competing ant movies, I can live with. But competing repossession-of-artificial-organ movies? C’mon.
