The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences announced today that The Daily Show’s Jon Stewart will host the 2007 Academy Awards on February 24. This marks Stewart’s second time as the ceremony’s emcee; he hosted the Oscars two years ago and got mixed reviews.
“I’m thrilled to be asked to host the Academy Awards for the second time because, as they say, the third time’s a charm,” Stewart said in a statement.
I like Stewart, but I think I would feel better about this choice if Stephen Colbert was onboard as co-host. They were very funny when they were co-presenters at last year’s Emmy Awards, and Colbert’s straight-faced irony would be a good counterbalance for Stewart’s sometimes smug sarcasm.
