The US Postal Service tomorrow will release a new 41-cent stamp dedicated to Jimmy Stewart, who is being honored for his offscreen exploits (he flew 20 bombing missions over Germany during World War II) as well as for his performances in The Philadelphia Story, Rear Window, and other movie classics.
“It’s our privilege to pay tribute to James Stewart, a fantastic actor, a great gentleman, a brave soldier, and an inspirational human being who truly led a wonderful life,” said Alan C. Kessler, the postal governing board’s vice chairman.
The stamp, the thirteenth in the “Legends of Hollywood” series, will be unveiled at Universal Studios in California.
