Kinda Pregnant

Rating:

My name is Latte

Main Cast: Amy Schumer, Will Forte

Director: Tyler Spindel

Lainey (Amy Schumer) has always wanted to be a mom. When her relationship falls apart just as her best friend becomes pregnant, she makes the terrible decision to strap on a fake belly and pretend to be expecting.

That’s all there is to it, really. Kinda Pregnant relies on Schumer’s physical comedy skills and absolute fearlessness as an actress. As you might expect, there are dozens of cringe-worthy moments in the film as Lainey digs herself deeper and deeper into her perilous lie. Will Forte does well as the romantic lead, and Brianne Howey from Ginny & Georgia is a standout sidekick.

There is some social commentary here about the catch-22 of both pregnancy and motherhood, but it’s mostly a silly, raunchy comedy. It’s crude and loud and funny. Kinda Pregnant is exactly what I look for in an Amy Schumer comedy: adolescent jokes, sassy sidekicks, lots of bad language, and a few touching moments. If you like Schumer, check it out. If you don’t, what are you doing here?

Kinda Pregnant is streaming on Netflix.
