ABC plans to resurrect the Green One
So rumor has it that ABC is going to produce an Incredible Hulk TV series. Yeah, I know what you’re thinking, “This was already a TV series, and a movie, and another movie, and a few more movies”. You are correct.
When I was a wee lass The Incredible Hulkwas indeed a series, one where Bill Bixby (who I thought was quite the dude) played Bruce Banner and Lou Ferrigno became a household name playing The Hulk. It was good times for The Hulk back in the 70s – the show was a hit.
Since then, however, Hulk has had a rough road with audiences. Imdb.com shows over a dozen incarnations of the character in both live action and animated form. The most extravagant outing to date is definitely the big screen Hulk starring Edward Norton as Bruce Banner.
Now make no mistake, I love Edward Norton. His performance in Primal Fearopposite Richard Gere contains one of my favorite thriller scenes of all time. He’s fabulous. But he’s apparently no match for Bill Bixby because his version of The Incredible Hulk was met with, well, mostly apathy.
Never ones to let a sleeping superhero lie, Hollywood (well, ABC) is going to beat this dead, green, hulky horse at least one more time. According to Nikki Finke’s Deadline.com rumors about the series started to swirl over the summer. Since there has been no major news since, maybe they’ve thought better. I doubt it.
But never fear, Hulk fans, for the Green One will most definitely appear in the Joss Whedon helmed Avengersmovie, this time played by Mark Ruffalo. I suspect that he is also no Bill Bixby, but then again, who is, really?
Oh, and let’s not forget that Robert Downey, Jr. will also appear in The Avengers. We all know I can’t pass up an opportunity to mention RDJ. If only he would play The Hulk. Sigh…
