Here are some highlights for the upcoming week:

Netflix Streaming

One Day At a Time – Season 3 (February 8th)

This remake of the old 1970s Norman Lear sitcom has gotten great reviews for its willingness to take on tough topics like mental illness, homophobia, racism and immigration.  Series star Justina Machado, who plays a single mom and military veteran with PTSD, and Rita Moreno as her mother give stand-out performances.

High Flying Bird (February 8th)

This is a movie for basketball lovers. It stars Andre Holland and Zazie Beetz in a story about a rookie player and an agent with a proposition during a lockout. This Netflix film was directed by Steven Soderbergh.

Netflix DVD Release

Bohemian Rhapsody (February 12th)

This is the kind of movie that makes me keep my DVD Subscription.  I missed it in the theater and can’t wait to see Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury.  The movie is nominated for five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actor in a Leading Role. Check out Mrs. Norman Maine’s review here.

Amazon Prime Video

White Dragon – Season 1 (February 8th)

I know almost nothing about this new Amazon Prime Video series, but I’m intrigued. It’s about a man whose late wife had a lot of secrets, among them a whole other life. He travels to Hong Kong to find out who she really was. I’m watching!
