New on Netflix – October 5th and October 12th

What the world needs now, is movies on DVD…

It’s that time again, time for New on Netflix!  All that’s new to watch in DVD and, hopefully, rent from Netflix.  Sometimes those two things don’t happen at the same time and you can purchase before you can Netflix.  That’s why I’m here.  I’ll let you know what’s new, what’s now and what’s delayed.  Let’s go!

October 5th

MacGruber (comedy spoof, Will Forte, Kristen Wiig) – Netflix release, delayed from original release of September 7th

The Oxford Murders (thriller, Elijah Wood, William Hurt) – Netflix and purchase release, DVD and Blu-Ray

The Human Centipede: First Sequence (horror, Ashley C. Williams, Ashlyn Yennie, Dieter Laser) – Netflix and purchase release, DVD and Blu-Ray

The Secret of Kells (family, animated, Evan McGuire, Brendan Gleeson) – Netflix and purchase release, DVD and Blu-Ray, also available on Netflix Instant Streaming

Splice (sci-f- thriller, Sarah Polley, Adrien Brody) – Purchase release, Netflix release delayed until November

Holy Rollers (crime drama, Jesse Eisenberg, Justin Bartha) – Purchase release with a weird mini-delay for Netflix until October 19th, DVD and Blu-Ray

The Karate Kid 2010 (family drama, Jaden Smith, Jackie Chan) Purchase release, Netflix release delayed until November

A Nightmare on Elm Street 2010 (horror, Jackie Earle Haley, Rooney Mara) – Purchase release, Netflix release delayed until November

October 12th

Leaves of Grass (comedy, Edward Norton, Richard Dreyfuss) – Netflix and purchase release, DVD and Blu-Ray

I Am Love (foreign drama, Tilda Swinton, Flavio Parenti) – Netlfix and purchase release, DVD and Blu-Ray

Breaking Upwards (romance, Zoe Lister-Jones, Daryl Wein) – Netflix and purchase release, DVD

Just Wright (romance, Queen Latifah, Common) – Netflix release – delayed from purchase release of September 14th

Jonah Hex (action, Josh Brolin, John Malkovich) – Purchase release, Netflix release delayed until November

October 15th

For a little extra weirdness, this time we have a Friday release.

How to Train Your Dragon (family, animated, Jay Baruchel, Gerard Butler) – Netflix and purchase release, DVD and Blu-Ray

That’s a lot of delays for October 5th, but we do have a few new little quirks, with odd, short delays, Friday releases and the unfortunate availability of MacGruber to the Netflix viewing audience.   Leaves of Grass and The Oxford Murders are the two that grabbed my attention.  After seeing Edward Norton cutting it up on Season 1 of Modern Family, I’m looking forward to seeing him star in a comedy.
