Ray Donovan – Season 4 (TV drama, Liev Schreiber, Jon Voight) – The L.A fixer returns (and will be back for a fifth season). This one isn’t a streamer, so DVD Only.
Comedy Bang! Bang! – Season 5 (comedy, Scott Aukerman, Weird Al Yankovic ) – To be honest, I don’t really know what this show is. Variety? It was originally a podcast and has celebrities. Instant Streaming Only
Sully (drama, Tom Hanks, Aaron Eckhart) – I’m really looking forward to this. Top of the queue! DVD Only
The BFG (family, Mark Rylance, Ruby Barnhill) – My kids loved this when they were little. I don’t even know the story. Maybe one to rent over winter break. DVD Only
Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie (comedy, Jennifer Saunders, Joanna Lumley) – I don’t know a lot about this British pair, but they now have a movie updating fans on their shenanigans long after the show went off the air. DVD Only
Pete’s Dragon (family, Bryce Dallas Howard, Oakes Fegley) – Another live action Disney cartoon remake. I can’t decide if this is using technology for good or evil. Instant Streaming Available
Storks (family animation, Kelsey Grammer, Andy Samberg) – See that genre? This will never hit my screen. But enjoy, everyone else! DVD Only
A Man Called Ove (foreign drama, Rolf Lassgård, Bahar Pars) – I’m actually glad this is in Swedish. I want to read the book (I love cranky old man stories) and the subtitles will keep me from giving into the temptation to see the movie first. DVD Only
The Dressmaker (drama, Kate Winslet, Judy Davis) – Set in Australia in the 50s, a story of a woman making waves in her small town after living in Paris. DVD Only
When the Bough Breaks (thriller, Morris Chestnut, Regina Hall) – Surrogate goes all Single-White-Female on family she’s carrying baby for. Yikes. Instant Streaming Available
In a Valley of Violence (western, Ethan Hawke, Taissa Farmiga) – Good cast for this story of vengeance in the wild west. DVD Only
No Manches Frida (foreign comedy, Omar Chaparro, Martha Higareda) – Spanish language Mexican remake of a German comedy. It isn’t only Hollywood that can’t come up with a new story! DVD Only
American Honey (drama, Sasha Lane, Shia LaBeouf) – Shia LeBoeuf in a movie about drunken miscreants. Huh. DVD Only
Dog Eat Dog (drama, Nicolas Cage, Willem Dafoe) – Ex-cons looking to pull one more job. Yawwwwwn. Instant Streaming Available
Kill Command (action, Vanessa Kirby, Thure Lindhart) – Army training isn’t as fun when there are evil creatures involved. Instant Streaming Available
Pet (thriller, Dominic Monaghan, Ksenia Solo) – Be careful about reconnecting with that old crush, young lady. DVD Only
Coming Through the Rye (drama, Alex Wolff, Stefania Owen) – Not “Catcher in the Rye”, but about “Catcher in the Rye”. 1960s period piece. DVD Only
December 27th
Chasing Cameron – Season 1 (reality TV, Cameron Dallas) – I have no idea who this person is – apparently some sort of “social media sensation”. Which guarantees I have no interest in following his life. Instant Streaming Only
Ajin – Season 2 (anime, Mamoru Miyano, Yoshimasa Hosoya) – Good vs. Evil, teenagers with powers, I don’t really know. Instant Streaming Only
December 26th
The Magicians – Season 1 (TV drama, Jason Ralph, Olivia Taylor Dudley) – Sort of an American Hogwarts type thing, with a school for magic. But with a dark side where the students who don’t get in try to learn on their own. I’ve watched a couple episodes – it’s pretty good. Been out on DVD for a while, now Available on Instant Streaming

Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War (sci-fi action, Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr.) – Sweet! I just saw this on DVD – it’s coming to streaming really quickly. Merry Christmas to us! Instant Streaming Available

Superstore – Season 1 (TV comedy, America Ferrera, Ben Feldman) – I really want to see this – it reminds me of the comic strip Retail, which I love. DVD Only
Neither Heaven Nor Earth (foreign thriller, Jérémie Renier, Swann Arlaud) – French language story of soldiers disappearing in Afghanistan. DVD Only
Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love (family, Gerald McRaney, Dolly Parton) – Christmas sequel to Parton’s Coat of Many colors, this time with the family farm threatened and the kids trying to buy a wedding ring for Mom. DVD Only

Sense8 – Christmas Special (TV sci-fi, Tuppence Middleton, Brian J. Smith) – I know it seems weird, but I’m going to be watching this ASAP. I need a Sense8 fix. Instant Streaming Only

The Break – Season 1 (TV drama, Yoann Blanc, Guillaume Kerbush) – Detective in mourning gets pulled into a case when he goes back to his hometown. Instant Streaming Only
Gabriel Iglesias: Sorry For What I Said When I Was Hungry (comedy special) – No specific information yet, but presumably a stand-up special. Instant Streaming Only
Disorder (foreign thriller, Matthias Schoenaerts, Diane Kruger) – The DVD for this French language thriller came out on the 13th, now it also Instant Streaming Available
Suicide Squad (action, Will Smith, Margot Robbie) – Another superhero/supervillain movie! But these guys are a little different. Check out our Movie Rewind Backstory to see what they’re about. DVD Only
War Dogs (dramedy, Jonah Hill, Miles Teller) – Becoming good natured arms dealers doesn’t always work out that well. DVD Only
Kubo and the Two Strings (family animation, Charlize Theron, Art Parkinson) – Conjuring that spirit was a bad idea, Kubo. Even if it was an accident. Instant Streaming Available
The Magnificent Seven (western, Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt) – These here gunslingers are gonna protect this here town. Remake of the 1960 original. DVD Only
Greater (drama, Neal McDonough, Leslie Easterbrook) – Football walk-on makes good at the University of Arkansas. DVD Only
31 (horror, Sheri Moon Zombie, Jeff Daniel Phillips) – Directed by Rob Zombie – carnies kidnapped on Halloween and forced to play terrifying game. DVD Only
Maximum Ride (sci-fi, Allie Marie Evans, Patrick Johnson) – Bird/human hybrids running from wolf/human hybrids. Cool! This appears to be based on a book. I think I should read that book, then see this movie. Instant Streaming Available
Goat (drama, Ben Schnetzer, Nick Jonas) – Frat hazing, with Nick Jonas. And James Franco. Weirdly enough, I think I’ll pass on this one. DVD Only
Dad’s Army (comedy, Bill Nighy, Catherine Zeta-Jones) – Apparently these are characters from a TV show from the 1970s about a bumbling British army base. DVD Only
Department Q: The Keeper of Lost Causes (foreign thriller, Nikolaj Lie Kaas, Fares Fares) – Danish language story of a detective investigating a cold case. Instant Streaming Available
It Had to Be You (romantic comedy, Cristin Milioti, Dan Soder) – Jingle writer doesn’t know whether to accept proposal or not. Oh, no. DVD Only

Asperger’s Are Us (documentary, Noah Britton, Ethan Finlan) – Friends on the autism spectrum for a comedy troupe. Instant Streaming Only
December 13th
American Gothic – Season 1 (TV thriller, Juliet Rylance, Antony Starr) – This was a one season and done series – but it’s satisfying as a stand alone mini-series. DVD Only at the moment, I have no idea if it will stream.
Fear the Walking Dead – Season 2 (TV horror, Kim Dickens, Cliff Curtis) – I gave up on this Walking Dead prequel – just could not get into the characters. For some reason it is not a streamer, so DVD Only
Death in Paradise – Season 5 (TV dramedy, Ben Miller, Sara Martins) – This fish out of water story of a Scotland Yard detective relocated to the Caribbean is a streamer, so I’ll watch for it. It has been renewed for a sixth season. Instant Streaming Available
Colony – Season 1 (sci-fi, Josh Holloway, Sarah Wayne Callies ) – Dystopian alien invasion future starring Sawyer from Lost and Lori from The Walking Dead. There will be a second season. Instant Streaming Available, Downloadable
Nobel – Season 1 (foreign TV thriller, Aksel Hennie, Atheer Adel) – Norwegian language series about a soldier who returns home and gets caught up in intrigue. Instant Streaming Only
Dr. Blake Mysteries – Season 2 (TV mystery, Craig McLachlan) – Australian show set in the late 1950s, with a war vet M.D. who solves murders. This one is DVD Only and there is a third season coming.
Finding Dory (family animation, Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks) – If I tell my college age daughter this is out, she will insist that I rent it and watch it with her over and over and over during Christmas break. I must keep this secret. Instant Streaming Available
I Am Not a Serial Killer (thriller, Max Records, Laura Fraser) – Potential teenage serial killer hunts down actual serial killer. Instant Streaming Only
Kill Switch – I’m not entirely sure what this one is – possibly a 2014 documentary about control of the Internet. Will update when details become available. Instant Streaming Only
Disorder (foreign thriller, Matthias Schoenaerts, Diane Kruger) – French language story of a veteran with PTSD becoming paranoid on his new job. Instant Streaming Available
Barney Thomson (comedy, Robert Carlyle, Ray Winstone) – Also with Emma Thompson. Robert Carlisle is an accidental serial killer. I need to see this. DVD Only
Florence Foster Jenkins (drama, Meryl Streep, Hugh Grant) – Stephen Frears directs a great cast in the story of a wealthy woman in the 1940s with a horrible singing voice who thinks she’s a fabulous opera star. Based on a true story. DVD Only
Ben-Hur 2016 (action, Jack Huston, Morgan Freeman) – Because we really needed a remake of this. Peh. DVD Only
Southside With You (romance, Parker Sawyers, Tika Sumpter) – 1989 period piece about Barack and Michelle Obama’s first date. I’m not kidding. And it actually looks kind of cute. DVD Only
Little Men (drama, Greg Kinnear, Jennifer Ehle) – Teenagers with parents in a financial dispute try to remain friends. Instant Streaming Available
End of a Gun (action, Steven Seagal, Florin Piersic Jr.) – He’s never going to stop. Ever. DVD Only
Equity (thriller, Anna Gunn, James Purefoy) – Woman-in-finance thriller starring Skyler from Breaking Bad. DVD Only
Brother Nature (comedy, Taran Killam, Bobby Moynihan) – Man thinking about running for office sees a land mine in his (maybe) future brother-in-law. DVD Only

White Rabbit Project – Season 1 (reality TV, Kari Byron, Tory Bellecci) – Looks like a reality series about ranking great things – in history, inventions, etc. Netflix Original. Instant Streaming Only
Medici: Masters of Florence – Season 1 (TV drama, Richard Madden, Stuart Martin) – 15th century period drama about a powerful family, with murder and intrigue. I see no evidence of a second season, so maybe this is more of a mini-series. Instant Streaming Only
Four Seasons in Havana – Season 1 (foreign TV thriller, Jorge Perugorria) – Spanish language series set in 1990s Cuba, based on novels by Leonardo Pedura. Instant Streaming Only
Captive – Season 1 (documentary) – Netflix original series reconstructs high profile kidnappings and hostage situations. Instant Streaming Only
Spectral (sci-fi, James Badge Dale, Emily Mortimer) – Also with Bruce Greenwood. Aliens in Europe and the people who fight them. Instant Streaming Only
December 8th
The Cuba Libre Story – Season 1 (documentary) – I think this is an 8 episode Cuban history documentary series without a second season. I’m not sure – will know more as the date gets closer. Instant Streaming Only
December 6th
The Bureau – Season 1 (foreign TV drama, Mathieu Kassovitz, Jean-Pierre Darroussin) – There are 2 seasons of this French secret service drama, with a third on the way, but this is the first to be released on Netflix. Apparently it was first released on iTunes. It’s supposed to be pretty amazing. DVD Only
BrainDead (TV dramedy, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Danny Pino) – I believe (and hope with all my heart) that this is a single season mini-series. It’s great as is – definitely recommended for those who enjoy the absurd. DVD Only
Scream Queens – Season 1 (camp horror, Emma Roberts, Jamie Lee Curtis) – What an incredible cast for this campy horror Fox show! Created by the twisted minds of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk (who are also responsible for the impossibly divergent Glee and American Horror Story), I think this could be a winner. I have no idea if it will stream, so DVD Only for now. It does have a second season.
Zoo – Season 2 (TV sci-fi, James Wolk, Kristen Connolly) – The animals keep attacking in season 2 of this summer blockbuster. This is the DVD release – it’s been Available on Instant Streaming for some time.
Family Guy – Season 14 (adult animation, Seth MacFarlane, Alex Borstein) – This many years in, you already know if you like Peter Griffin and Co. Instant Streaming Only
Attack on Titan: Part 2 (foreign sci-fi, Haruma Miura, Hiroki Hasegawa) – Japanese language manga adaptation. Part 2. DVD Only
The Hollars (comedy, Anna Kendrick, John Krasinski) – Krasinski directed this dysfunctional family comedy, which also stars the wonderful Richard Jenkins and Mago Martindale. Goes on my queue for sure. DVD Only.
White Girl (drama, Chris Noth, Justin Bartha) – Trying to figure out what to do with your boyfriend’s cocaine after he gets busted is a struggle. Poor college girl. Instant Streaming Available, Downloadable
The Great Gilly Hopkins (family, Sophie Nélisse, Kathy Bates) – Sophie Nélisse from The Book Thief stars in this story of a young girl finally finding a place in a foster home. Based on the book by Katherine Paterson. DVD Only
Phantasm: Ravager (horror, A. Michael Baldwin, Angus Scrimm) – Final installment in the franchise – more fighting the Tall Man (I have no idea what that means). This is the sixth movie in this series, spanning over 30 years. DVD Only.
Heart of a Dog (experimental) – Filmmaker Laurie Anderson uses meditations on her dog to reflect on a wide ranging set of ideas, topics and concepts. DVD Only
Kicks (drama, Jahking Guillory, Mahershala Ali) – A teenager braves the streets to retrieve stolen sneakers. DVD Only
The Remains (horror, Todd Lowe, Ashley Crow) – Leave the stuff in the attic of the old house alone, people. DVD Only
In Order of Disappearance (foreign comedy, Stellan Skarsgård, Bruno Ganz) – Murder, vengeance and drug lords? I’m guessing this Norwegian language film is a dark comedy. Instant Streaming Available
Better Off Single (comedy, Aaron Tveit, Abby Elliott) – Man breaks up with his girlfriend, quits his job, and spirals into hallucinations and other horrors. Hijinks ensue? DVD Only
Siren (horror, Hannah Fierman, Justin Welborn) – A bachelor part gone seriously wrong. DVD Only
Jack Goes Home (horror, Rory Culkin, Lin Shaye) – Hey, I haven’t seen a Culkin in a while! This one unfortunately finds out that his family is all lies. Bummer. DVD Only
The Unspoken (thriller, Jodelle Ferland, Neal McDonough) – A family moves into ahouse where that another family disappeared from years ago. Are they really surprised that things go badly? COME ON PEOPLE! DVD Only
I Am Bolt (documentary, Usain Bolt) – Can anyone guess what this is about? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone? DVD Only
The Late Bloomer (comedy, Johnny Simmons, Maria Bello) – Holy cow – based on the true story of a sex theerapist who goes through puberty in his late 20s after having a tumor removed. I might actually have to see this. Instant Streaming Available
Spa Night (foreign drama, Joe Seo, Haerry Kim) – Closeted gay teen gets a job at Korean spa in L.A. and has lots of sex. Drama probably ensues for this son of immigrants. I think this is in both Korean and English. Instant Streaming Available, Downloadable
Eliminators (action, Scott Adkins, Wade Barrett) – Getting outed from witness protection because of an address mix up sucks, man. DVD Only
Author: The JT LeRoy Story (documentary, Laura Albert) – Interesting. This is about a woman who wrote a series of well received books posing as a transgender teenage boy, resulting in outrage when she was found out. Here she explains why she did it. DVD Only
Harry and Snowman (documentary) – Story of a man who turned an unwanted horse into a champion show jumper. Instant Streaming Available, Downloadable
Yoga Hosers (comedy, Harley Quinn Smith, Lily-Rose Depp) – This Kevin Smith directed comedy is about two typical teenagers enlisted to fight Nazi monsters. Kudos on the name of the movie, Mr. Smith. It makes me LOL. Instant Streaming Available, Downloadable
Dead Rising 2: End Game (action, Jessica Harmon, Marie Avgeropoulos) – Zombies! And government conspiracies, of course. DVD Only
Homeland (Iraq Year Zero) (documentary) – A look at life in Iraq before and after the invasion by the US. This looks to be more of a miniseries than an ongoing series – it’s two parts, each about three hours long. Instant Streaming Only
Reggie Watts: Spatial (comedy special, Reggie Watts) – A Netflix Original stand-up comedy special. Instant Streaming Only
The Devil Dolls (horror, Christopher Wiehl, Kym Jackson) – I think this is actually The Devil’s Dolls, a horror movie about a serial killer and an ancient curse. Instant Streaming Only
The Model (thriller, Maria Palm, Ed Skrein) – Young model becomes obsessed with older lover. Instant Streaming Only
Five Nights in Maine (drama, David Oyelowo, Dianne Wiest) – A man goes to visit his late wife’s mother, who he has never met before. DVD Only
Masterpiece: Churchill’s Secret (drama, Michael Gambon, Romola Garai) – 1950s British period piece about an ailing Churchill and his family secrets. DVD Only
Traded (western, Trace Adkins, Michael Paré) – I had no idea 1880s Kansas was such a hotbed of murder and kidnapping. Instant Streaming Only
Diary of a Chambermaid (foreign drama, Léa Seydoux, Vincent Lindon) – French language early 1900s period piece about the trials and tribulations of a chambermaid in a wealthy household. Instant Streaming Only
The Frontier (thriller, Jocelin Donahue, Izabella Miko) – Shady lady runs into shady guys, shady things ensue. In the desert. Instant Streaming Only
1000 Rupee Note (foreign drama, Usha Naik, Sandeep Pathak) – Marathi language story of a woman given a large amount of money by a politician, which turns out to be a mixed blessing. Instant Streaming Only
On Meditation (documentary, David Lynch, Giancarlo Esposito) – A documentary about famous people meditating. Instant Streaming Only

Pacific Heat – Season 1 (adult animation, Rob Stitch, Santo Cilauro) – Netflix Original. Animated series about less than brilliant detectives in Australia. Instant Streaming Only
Fauda – Season 1 (TV crime drama) – This 2015 series is a Hebrew/Arabic language look at the Israeli Palestinian conflict. It looks like there’s only this single season at this point, but there seems to be a second planned for 2017. Instant Streaming Only
Hip-Hop Evolution – Season 2 (documentary, Sal Abbatiello, Paul Ackerley) – Weirdly, I cannot find season one of this music documentary series on Netflix at the moment. But here’s season 2! Instant Streaming Only
December 1st
Merli – Season 1 (???) – A Netflix Original – no information out quite yet. I believe it is a Spanish language show about a philosophy teacher. Two seasons seem to exist at this point. Instant Streaming Only
Girlfriends Guide to Divorce – Season 2 (TV comedy, Lisa Edelstein, Beau Garrett) – This series about a self-help author going through a divorce is back for a second season. It airs on TV on Bravo and has been renewed through season 5. Instant Streaming Only
Glory Daze: The Life and Time of Michael Alig (documentary, Michael Alig, Noel Ashman) – Doc about NYC club kids in the 90s. Instant Streaming Only
The Angry Birds Movie (family animation, Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad) – Animated movie made from a video game? Yeah, no. Instant Streaming Available
Angels in the Snow (family, Kristy Swanson, Chris Potter) – A dysfunctional family Christmas miracle movie! Who doesn’t love those? Instant Streaming Only
