Zoo Creatures Gone Wild!

Main Voice Cast: Chris Rock, Ben Stiller, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith

Director: Eric Darnell

madagascarTaking a page from their rival, Dreamworks Animation comes up with this bright and musical tale of zoo animals thrown out into the wild. Alex the Lion (Stiller) and Marty the Zebra (Rock) are best friends, with a glum giraffe (Schwimmer) and hip hippo (Smith) rounding up this fab four. Three of the four are relatively happy at the zoo, celebrities guaranteed free food and drink, shelter, and relative safety. But Marty has a wish: he really wants to see the wild. It’s suppose to be a wonderful place… or at least something exciting and new.

Marty does manage to escape, and his friends rush off to save him. They end up in Grand Central Station and are recaptured by… the Man. Meanwhile, a band of mafia-like penguins hijack the ship the four are being transported to another zoo and, well, a few things happen and then there is this deserted island…

Okay, I don’t want to give the plot away. Just keep in mind the name of the movie. Do you think it might be relevant? Hmm. Anyway, this is a big, sprawling, larger-than-life tale of friendship and longing to see what’s over the next hill. The four friends work well together, at least until Alex is reminded of his own nature. But overall this is a solid tale, a bit predictable, but certainly full of life and energy. And I haven’t even mentioned the “true” king of the jungle…
